It Ain't Over

Town Council voted 3-2 on April 11 to spend $218,000 from the Open Space Trust Fund for preliminary work on the "Rubber Fields Initiative." (Button, Gallo, Testa for; Jordan and Chiacchio against.) The vote came after a lengthy public hearing during which the overwhelming majority of residents spoke passionately and eloquently against this use Open Space funds.

RAC originally asked for a $3.725 million bond. That failed. They dropped the number to $2.85 million (apparently without changing the scope of the project) and failed again. They finally got $218K. But the real tragedy is that vote opens the door for more and deeper raids on Open Space funds.

Sincere thanks to Council members Jordan and Chiacchio and to everyone who spoke up Monday night. It was beautiful.
