Meanwhile ...

Gov. Christie is willing to lavish state favors on the “the world’s largest” amusement project, but he feels quite differently about what was the nation’s largest public-works project.

Last October, Christie put the kibosh on the multi-billion-dollar Hudson River rail tunnel project that was to be financed with state, federal, and Port Authority of NY and NJ funds. Now, the U.S. Department of Transportation wants the state to repay $271 million the feds have spent on the project.

But Christie’s having none of it. “I ain’t paying them,” the tough-talking Man from Mendham said Tuesday, vowing to fight the feds in court. 

Christie’s decision may have been bad for the construction industry (and unions), but it’s good for lawyers. The Record reports that the state already has paid lawyers $800,000 to unsuccessfully argue the state’s case against repayment.
