Why GOP Will Lose Congress

Not only because they believe, contrary to all evidence, that wrecking Medicare is a good idea. (It just cost them a House seat). But also because they think, after the worst financial train wreck since the Great Depression, that protecting citizens against the engineers of the train wreck is a bad idea.

Sleazy brokers selling dodgy mortgages fueled the engine of economic doom that finally (and predictably) ran off the rails in 2008. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was established last year to protect consumers from such sleaze.

Elizabeth Warren is charged with setting up the nascent CFPB. She is, but all accounts, extremely sharp and committed to her task, and that doesn’t sit well with GOP members blindly committed to "less government."

On Tuesday, Warren appeared before a House oversight subcommittee chaired by Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry (NC-10). Few in Congress are more blindly committed to the GOP’s mindless agenda than McHenry, and that makes him one of the House’s most entertaining members. And he didn't disappoint on Tuesday, essentially calling Warren a liar over a mundane scheduling matter.

And there's more. Watch as McHenry’s hectors Warren during questioning (starts at 15:11). If you can discern what he’s getting at with his questions, let me know.
